Pastor Edwin Pope
BIOGRAPHY
Pastor Edwin Pope has been immersed in music from an early age, beginning with his classical piano training at just seven years old. He recalls traveling from San Antonio to Yoakum, Texas every Sunday listening to Gospel Music on eight track tapes with his family.
“We would listen to Andrae Crouch, Walter Hawkins and the Hawkins Family, Shirley Caesar, and Reverend Richard White (Mr. Clean) on the way to church for 4 hours every Sunday,” Pope said. The genre had a tremendous impact on him.
His passion for music was nurtured under the guidance of his father, J.B. Pope, Jr., the pastor of Forest Street COGIC in Yoakum, Texas, and later Denver Heights COGIC in San Antonio, Texas. As the Minister of Music at these churches, Pastor Pope honed his skills not only as a pianist but also as a singer, songwriter, and composer.
Over the years, Pastor Pope has become known for his exceptional musical talents, which include a deep passion for both traditional and contemporary gospel music as well as other genres. His ability to fuse traditional gospel with global sounds has made him a force in the music ministry. His original compositions and arrangements continue to inspire and uplift those who have the privilege of hearing his work.
